Letter from the BDCS President

Dear BDC Students,

Welcome to the BDC Society! My name is Sam Li, and I’m this year’s BDCS president. Alongside my dedicated team, we’ll be bringing you new events, initiatives and resources this year to enhance your experience in this unique program. Our goal is to support your academic, professional and personal growth while you’re here in this program! Feel free to explore our website to learn about who we are and what we have to offer.

To our 3rd years: congratulations on your acceptance to BDC! You have all worked hard during the application stage to get yourselves here. I know you might be concerned about the year ahead - entering a new program definitely comes with its learning curves, and BDC is no different. Maybe you’ve never taken a lab course before, or maybe this is your first time learning business fundamentals. Guess what? That’s okay!

We all have diverse backgrounds, and that is our strength. Our program is special - you’ll have numerous opportunities to learn from each other, guiding your fellow peers to success. I am confident that you will grow your skills during your time here, as I did. Know that the BDCS and my fellow upper years are here to support you during this transition, and even beyond it. Most importantly, the instructors, TAs, and administrative staff are ALL here to support your success.

Now, to my fellow 4th years: this is it! Just one more push, and it’s graduation day. This final year brings excitement and anticipation, so the BDCS is striving to make this year the most memorable. Looking back, our beginnings in this program were certainly unconventional, but we’ve made so many achievements despite these challenges. For one, think about all the creative group projects, seminar discussions, and presentations we’ve orchestrated over countless online meetings, inside and outside of the classroom.

Despite being miles apart, our virtual cohesiveness allowed us to bring our ideas to life. These milestones are indicative of our resilience as a cohort, and I know this will translate seamlessly to further successes this year. On a funnier note, it’ll definitely be surreal to run into each other on campus (at a safe distance) after an entire year of working via video call too!

That said, I’m so excited to be joining you all on your next journey through BDC! No matter what year you’re in, the BDCS is here to support you. Feel free to stop by our year-round office hours, or reach out to me and the executive team if you have any concerns, questions, or suggestions. We’re always looking for ways to improve, so share your bright ideas with us!

Best wishes for the year ahead!

Sincerely,

Samantha Li
