BDCS Summer Wrap Up

With summer coming to an end, BDCS is here to provide an update with what we’ve been working on over the summer and our upcoming plans/ goals for this academic year. Read through each exec update!

As president, I am super excited to support my executive team and see their ideas take shape into full-fledged events and working initiatives! I also plan on using my connections to the BBSS and the MSS to tighten relations and create lasting partnerships for the future. Additionally, through office hours and our feedback form, I hope to establish a seamless bridge between BDC students and faculty members, promptly communicating their questions and concerns. Overall, I plan on continuing to foster close-knit relations between the cohorts, as well as between us - the BDC society - and the student body! Looking forward to an exciting, productive year!

Hi all. I am Tyler the VP Finance this year. My main plans are to successfully organize and execute a BDC student/Faculty/Alumni Golf tournament for the Spring of 2022. Also, I am very big on financial literacy so I hope to have some of this events. Finally, I am looking to orchestrate BDC Intramural teams for various sports.

Hi everyone! My name is Alessio, and I am the VP Academics for the BDCS this year. I transferred from biochemistry to BDC because I wanted to acquire some basic knowledge in business, and I was also looking forward to the presentations and groupwork. This year, we're working to launch a peer assistance program, in which students can seek out help from upper-year students to succeed in their challenging courses. We plan to release forms soon to recruit fourth-year BDC student tutors and mBDC tutors soon. We're also looking forward to a number of other events this year, including Meet the Profs Night, test review sessions, and skill-building sessions with the aim of becoming better in writing, presenting, researching, and more. Stay tuned this year for more details!

Hello I'm Eric and I'm the VP Social for the BDCS this year. I came from the molecular biology and genetics program in 2nd year and currently I'm doing my 4th year thesis in the Magarvey lab. Some upcoming events to watch out for include the Finding a Thesis Supervisor Info Session, mentor-mentee socials, and hopefully an in-person social! My goals for this year is to plan enjoyable and memorable social events, and to help support and foster the close knit culture that the BDC program is known for.

Hi everyone, I’m Vicki and I’m the VP Mentorship for this year! This summer started off by collaborating with Alessio the VP Academics and Angela VP Marketing and Communications to create the survival guide where we provided information and guidance for both 3rd and 4th years for BDC specific courses, electives, and more. Applications for the mentorship program for both mentors and mentees started shortly after with applications closing in August, pairings done by beginning of September and the mentorship program was launched the first week of September. Upcoming plans for the next month include a welcome mentorship social where 4th and 3rd years can meet their mentors and mentor of the month giveaways!

Hi everyone! My name is Dheepthi Thommandram and I am this year’s VP External for BDCS! Over the summer I have been working on gathering professional development resources and employment opportunities as my primary goal for this year is to ensure our 3rd and 4th year cohorts are aware and equipped with skills required for internship applications. Additionally, I have been connecting with BDC Alumni for the launch of our Life After BDC Panel and 4th year-Alumni mentorship program! If you have any ideas, industries you would like to connect with, or feedback for me, please feel free to contact me at thommand@mcmaster.ca!

Hi everyone! My name is Angela and I’m this year’s Vp Marketing and Communications! Over the summer, I’ve helped design the BDC 2021-2022 Survival Guide which I highly recommend everyone get the chance to read over. I’ve also been working on promoting our summer events and updating our website. BDConnect was something I wanted to start so that we, as a society, could remain more transparent with everyone about what we’ve been working on. Throughout the year, you’ll be seeing more entries like this. This year, I hope to expand and diversify how we use our social media to provide all of you with interesting and relevant content. Another major goal is to provide you all with more merchandise designs and collaborate with the BBSS to create a creative publication1
